Thank god for Germans

Vacation in a very different country then your own is always a real adventure. Ofcourse you seek for new experiences,  but sometimes something familiar is a gift from heaven.

Last monday  I flew with my girlfriend to Natal, Brazil.  After having read the Loneley Planet thoroughly and searching the net for a reasonably priced hotel we ended up in Pousada do Alemao, Ponta Negra ( Natal ), because they spoke german and so we could understand each other. The owner (a 6-generation german immigrant ) was also very flexible with payment. We do not have to pay until we leave the pousada. That is just the opposite of another pousada i tried to book. This deal jumped, because we could barely understand each other and i definetly didn’t understand how to pay the advance.

Furthermore, he tipped us a reliable travel agency here, once again a german speaker, for our travels to Salvador and the Pantanal. The guy at the travel agency was once more a example of the good german virtues, reliable and thorough. Paying with credit card is not so easy here if you do not have American Express, so we have to pay in cash. But we only can pay in small amounts because the ATM won’t let us withdraw a large amount. For each payment we recieve a receipt, feeling secure with the deal.

To conclude, we are enyoing our time here in Natal, beginning each morning with a very nice breakfast with tropical fruit, coffee and homemade cakes. After that a nice dip in the ocean under a relentless sun and in the evening a nice meal with bratwurst.

Many thanks to Dom Pedro I, the first king of Brazil, who stimulated immigration from Europe to Brazil.
